August 15th Fireworks in Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio

Every summer, the Feast of the Assumption (A Santa Maria) transforms southern Corsica into a true spectacle of illuminations and traditional festivities. With solemn processions, outdoor concerts, and magical fireworks displays, mid-August is the highlight of the summer season.

If you are staying in the Porto-Vecchio or Bonifacio region, here is the detailed fireworks program:

1. Porto-Vecchio: August 14 & 15

In Porto-Vecchio, the Santa Maria festivities span two days.

  • Thursday, August 14 (Eve):

    • 8:00 PM: Night Mass at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church, followed by the traditional Marian procession to the marina.

    • 9:00 PM: Live music and concert at the harbor.

    • 10:30 PM: Grand traditional fireworks display launched from the marina.

  • Friday, August 15:

    • Solemn Masses at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church in the morning, followed by processions in the heart of L’Ospédale and Muratello villages in the late afternoon.

2. Bonifacio: August 15

The show is launched above the sea and cliffs from the Bastion de l’Étendard.

  • Date: Friday, August 15

  • Time: Fireworks start at 11:00 PM

  • Location: Citadel & Bastion de l’Étendard, visible from the entire harbor / marina area.

  • Corsican singing concerts and musical entertainment along the quays throughout the evening.
